The extraordinary city is one of the most unique towns in the world, that thanks to the presence of its picturesque Trulli (there are more than 1000), now is considered world heritage of Unesco. The Trullo is a typical farmhouse, made with dry stone walls without cement, on which stands a dome-shaped cone, capped by a pinnacle, and covered, always dry, with rows and concentric sloping slabs smooth, gray local stone, named chiancarelle. The route through you can discover the narrow streets and the most beautiful parts of the Capital of Trulli and its monuments and museums, starts from the Balcony Belvedere. Here the visitor, enjoying a splendid view over the old town, dominated by conical roofs decorated by the mysterious symbols drawn with lime, immediately inform to be in a unique city. The tour continues with a visit to the historic center of Aia Piccola, consisting of about 400 Trulli, for the most part still used as dwellings. Inside of Aia Piccola, we also encounter the Museum of the Old and New Skills, in which to admire tools and instruments of the artisan culture of our land and the Oil Museum. Continuing in the historical center you reach the Casa D’Amore, declared world heritage monument, which is the first house built using mortar and without the classic shape of a Trullo. From here you can reach even the Basilica Minore dedicated to the Saints Cosma and Damian, patrons of the city, among the most venerated saints in Puglia. Behind the church is located the Trullo Sovrano, which represents the most advanced example of Trullo on two floors, where, between hearths, kitchen tools and frameworks, you can still breathe the atmosphere of the past. Particular importance in the historical center also holds the Monti district, which has over 1000 Trulli arranged in seven different ways of incomparable beauty. Among those worth mentioning are the Trulli Siamesi, particular for their double form. Here the visitor will be attracted by the skill of the many craftsmen and their shops liven up the neighborhood late at night.
To visit is undoubtedly the church of San Antonio located on top of the Monti district, characterized by a Trulli shape that makes it unique in the world.
